Being a big fan of the popular Yo-Kai Watch franchise, I was super psyched to find out that Yo-Kai Watch onesies existed and knew I definitely had to do a Jibanyan onesie review someday for all the fans out there who want to get a Jibanyan costume of their own.
Quick run-down on who Jibanyan is, for the uninitiated – Jibanyan is the mascot of Yo-Kai Watch, having been reincarnated from a pet cat to this dual flame-tailed, red monstrosity of a feline whose favorite past-times include eating Choco Bars and punching the cr*p out of oncoming trucks. No, he’s a sweetie, really! :3
Jibanyans are pretty rare in the wild, which could explain why Jibanyan onesies are so hard to find. Right now, the only onesie manufacturer I could find that made a Jibanyan costume was SAZAC, a Japanese company well-known for their high-quality one-piece suits. But once you see what they’re offering up for grabs…you know you’re looking at a beauty.
They got the detail of Jibanyan’s face EXACTLY RIGHT! Even down to the chip in his left ear! A less reputable manufacturer might have cut corners by reducing the white flame-shaped part of Jibanyan’s face (No IT’S NOT POOP-SHAPED!!) to an oval or – horrors – making the whole of Jibanyan’s face red but nope, not when you’re holding a onesie proudly made by SAZAC!
Jibanyan’s blue bell? Check. (It doesn’t actually ring. You could always attach a real bell to it I suppose, haha!) And the haramaki (the cloth wrapped around Jibanyan’s midriff)? Also check!
What about Jibanyan’s double tails then, you ask? Well, they’re at the back of the Jibanyan onesie, and have been thoughtfully stitched in place to stay up. They won’t be flopping around everywhere when you’re running around! Plus, when was the last time you saw Jibanyan with droopy tails? (Answer: Neverrrrrrr.) And being ever-faithful to Jibanyan’s design, do the tail flames of this onesie have darker-colored inner spirals? You bet.
Side note – the tails look rather thick, which they should be, but I can’t imagine that sitting on or leaning back on them will be the most comfortable. However, they do look fairly squishy so I guess it shouldn’t be that much of an issue. If anyone has worn a Jibanyan onesie and would like to share their opinion on this, I’m all ears!
The Jibanyan onesie is made of 100% fleece (polyester), so you’ll be able to swagger around as in style as you stuff your face with chocolate bars or unleash your Paws of Fury. It can get pretty warm in a full-body fleece onesie if it’s hot out, but SAZAC also has a short-sleeved version of this Jibanyan onesie so you can opt for whichever onesie is more suitable for you.
Your Jibanyan onesie is cheerily packaged when it arrives at your doorstep. It’s wrapped in paper featuring the Yo-Kai Watch logo in Japanese and various Yo-Kai medals, An exuberant Jibanyan also beams at you because he knows you’re gonna cosplay him in your bed, around the house or outside, all day and every day. (Warning: do not try to punch out trucks in your Jibanyan onesie.)
